Golf clubs for junior golfers

For parents and junior programs: how junior clubs are sized, when a teenager can move to used adult clubs, and how outgrown clubs can turn into money for a First Tee chapter.

Junior clubs are sized by height, not age

Junior sets are sold by the player's height, in brackets of about three inches (U.S. Kids Golf's run from 36 to 69 inches), because young golfers can grow 2.5 to 3 inches a year. PING's junior fitting adds a wrist-to-floor measurement to set length and lie. Expect a set to last a season or two as the player grows: Srixon-Cleveland told PGA.com that's what juniors usually get from its junior clubs.

A first set can be small. Callaway's smallest junior set has four clubs: a wood, an iron, a wedge and a putter. More clubs can come as the player learns when to use each one.

Used Club Finder doesn't list junior sets. For a young child, start with a junior set sized to their height.

When a teenager can play adult clubs

Brands make in-between options for teenagers: Callaway's XT set is for players moving from a junior set to a full-sized one, and TaylorMade's Junior Spec fitting is for players too big for junior box sets but not yet ready for full-size clubs. Once a player fits standard adult clubs, used is where the savings are: on Oct 17, 2026, the cheapest used driver graded Very Good or better was on average 26% below the cheapest new one of the same model, across 47 models at the stores we track.

A starting bag from our used pages, each picked by a printed rule rather than a rating:

A teenager rarely needs 14 clubs: your first set of golf clubs covers what a new golfer of any age needs, and the shaft flex chart helps choose a flex.

Outgrown clubs: donate or trade them in for a First Tee chapter

First Tee takes club donations through Next Round, its national trade-in partner since June 2026. On First Tee's club donation page, you build a quote for the clubs, then mail them with the prepaid shipping label from the confirmation email. The chapter receives 100% of the trade-in value, with no fees, and Next Round adds 50 cents for every dollar, up to $50,000 a year. Chapters that collect clubs locally can ship them the same way. Find your chapter on First Tee's locations page.

Used Club Finder earns nothing on donations, and these links aren't affiliate links. Junior programs and coaches are welcome to link this page.
