The short answer

Every P790 from 2019 to 2023 is identical on paper: same loft, lie and length on every club (a 30.5° 7-iron). The first P790 (2017) has the same lofts and lies, but every club is listed 0.25 in shorter. The 2025 P790 kept the 2019 to 2023 lies and lengths but strengthened the lofts by 0.5° to 1° on every club except the 6-iron (a 30° 7-iron), so only its 6-iron matches the older sets exactly.

The P770 changed only its 9-iron between 2020 and 2023 (41.5° to 41°). The 2024 P770 kept the 5-iron to the 9-iron and strengthened the 3-iron, 4-iron, PW and AW by 0.5° to 1°. The P770's 7-iron is 33° in every generation, 2.5° weaker than the 2017 to 2023 P790's (3° weaker than the 2025 P790's), and the P7MC's is 34°. Lies and lengths are the same across all three models, apart from the 2017 P790's shorter lengths.

Which used TaylorMade P790, P770 or P7MC to buy

Which used TaylorMade P790 is the best value?

Every P790 from 2019 to 2023 is identical on paper (a 30.5° 7-iron), and the 2017 original has the same lofts and lies with every club 0.25 in shorter. So the older sets are the value buys: choose on price and condition. The newer heads differ inside: a lighter foam fill and a slot through the sole from 2021, tungsten placed iron by iron in 2023. The 2025 P790 has stronger lofts (a 30° 7-iron, a 44° PW), so it doesn't match the older sets.

On Oct 26, 2026, used TaylorMade P790, P770 and P7MC iron sets (full sets, right-handed, shipping included) started at $624.99 for the 2017 P790, $549.99 for the 2019 P790, $535.99 for the 2021 P790, $684.99 for the 2023 P790, $844.99 for the 2025 P790, $509.99 for the 2020 P770, $529.99 for the 2023 P770, $625.99 for the 2024 P770 and $513.74 for the 2023 P7MC, at the stores Used Club Finder tracks.

TaylorMade P790, P770 or P7MC?

Three heads for three kinds of player. The P790 is the biggest: a hollow forged body filled with foam, which TaylorMade aims at golfers from scratch to about a 20 handicap who want distance in a forged look. The P770 is the same idea in a smaller head (a shorter blade, a narrower sole and a thinner topline), with lofts about 2.5° weaker (a 33° 7-iron). The P7MC is a forged cavity back for strong ball strikers, with the weakest lofts of the three (a 34° 7-iron).

What should I check before buying a used P790 or P770?

The year (see the loft table) and the exact model. The P790 Ti (2019) is a different head, with a titanium frame, a longer blade and more offset, and the P790 UDI is a single driving iron; neither is in these tables. Black versions are the same irons in a black finish: the P790 Black (2018), and the P790 and P770 Phantom Black (2023). Some stores call the 2023 P770 the 2022 P770, because TaylorMade announced it in December 2022. The P7MB changed lofts in 2023 (a 34° 7-iron against 35° on the 2020 set, which some stores date 2021); the P7MC didn't.

Each generation

TaylorMade P790 (2017)

The first P790 reached US shops on September 15, 2017, at $1,299 for a steel set. TaylorMade wrapped a forged 4140 face around a hollow 8620 steel body, filled it with SpeedFoam behind a 1.75 mm face, and added a slot in the sole and internal tungsten. It has the same lofts and lies as the 2019 to 2023 P790s, with every club listed 0.25 in shorter. A black-finish P790 followed in 2018. Sources: TaylorMade's 2017 P790 release, Today's Golfer, P790 Black.

On Oct 26, 2026, a used 2017 TaylorMade P790 set (right-handed, shipping included) started at $624.99 at the stores Used Club Finder tracks.

TaylorMade P790 (2019)

The second P790 reached shops on September 6, 2019, at $1,399.99 in steel. TaylorMade made the face 7% thinner and the tungsten slug 15% larger for a lower center of gravity, reduced the sole radius and took the offset out of the 3- to 6-irons. Its loft, lie and length match the 2021 and 2023 P790s on every club. The same autumn brought the P790 Ti, a different titanium-framed head, and the single P790 UDI driving iron. Sources: Golf.com, 2019 P790, GolfWRX, 2019 P790.

On Oct 26, 2026, a used 2019 TaylorMade P790 set (right-handed, shipping included) started at $549.99 at the stores Used Club Finder tracks.

TaylorMade P790 (2021)

The third P790 reached shops on September 3, 2021, at $1,299.99 for a 7-piece steel set. It brought SpeedFoam Air, a much lighter fill, a Thru-Slot Speed Pocket in the sole, a 1.5 mm face and up to 31 g of tungsten. The specs didn't change. The Phantom Black P790 of 2023 is this set in a black finish, by MyGolfSpy's account. Sources: GolfWRX, 2021 P790, Golf Digest, 2021 P790, MyGolfSpy, P790 Phantom Black.

On Oct 26, 2026, a used 2021 TaylorMade P790 set (right-handed, shipping included) started at $535.99 at the stores Used Club Finder tracks.

TaylorMade P790 (2023)

The fourth P790 reached shops on September 1, 2023, at $1,399 for a 7-piece steel set (3-iron to AW). TaylorMade placed the tungsten differently in each iron, lowering the long irons' center of gravity by almost a millimeter, and added a sound bar in the 3- to 7-irons and relief on the wedges' soles. Its loft, lie and length match the 2019 and 2021 P790s on every club. Sources: GolfWRX, 2023 P790, Golf.com, 2023 P790.

On Oct 26, 2026, a used 2023 TaylorMade P790 set (right-handed, shipping included) started at $684.99 at the stores Used Club Finder tracks.

TaylorMade P790 (2025)

The fifth P790 reached shops on March 13, 2025, at $1,399.99 for a 7-piece steel set. It has a forged 4340M face that TaylorMade calls 20% stronger, up to 40 g of toe tungsten in the mid irons, the Thru-Slot in the 4- to 7-irons only, a slimmer topline and the logo moved to the middle of the back. The lies and lengths are unchanged, but the lofts are stronger (a 30° 7-iron), so a 2025 iron doesn't match an older P790 set. Source: GolfWRX, 2025 P790.

On Oct 26, 2026, a used 2025 TaylorMade P790 set (right-handed, shipping included) started at $844.99 at the stores Used Club Finder tracks.

TaylorMade P770 (2020)

This P770 reached shops on September 4, 2020, at $1,399 for an 8-piece steel set. It's a hollow forged body with a thin 4140 face and SpeedFoam, up to 46 g of tungsten in the 3- to 7-irons, and a shorter blade, a narrower sole and a thinner topline than the P790. It matches the 2023 P770 on every club except the 9-iron (41.5° against 41°). Sources: Golf.com, 2020 P770, Golf Digest, 2020 P770.

On Oct 26, 2026, a used 2020 TaylorMade P770 set (right-handed, shipping included) started at $509.99 at the stores Used Club Finder tracks.

TaylorMade P770 (2023)

TaylorMade announced this P770 in December 2022 and it reached shops on January 20, 2023, at $1,299 in steel; some stores call it the 2022 P770. It has less offset (TaylorMade credits Tiger Woods' feedback), a thinner topline, SpeedFoam Air, a lower center of gravity in the long irons and the thinnest P770 face to date. A Phantom Black version followed in October 2023. Sources: GolfWRX, 2023 P770 and P7MC, MyGolfSpy, 2023 P Series, MyGolfSpy, P770 Phantom Black.

On Oct 26, 2026, a used 2023 TaylorMade P770 set (right-handed, shipping included) started at $529.99 at the stores Used Club Finder tracks.

TaylorMade P770 (2024)

The 2024 P770 reached shops on September 6, 2024, at $1,399.99 for a 7-piece set. TaylorMade lowered and sharpened the leading edge on the mid and long irons, thinned the topline, made the shape more compact and moved the tungsten again (up to 41 g). The 7-iron is still 33°, but the 3- and 4-irons are half a degree stronger and the PW and AW 1° stronger (45° and 50°) than on the 2023 set. Sources: Golf Digest, 2024 P770, GolfWRX, 2024 P770.

On Oct 26, 2026, a used 2024 TaylorMade P770 set (right-handed, shipping included) started at $625.99 at the stores Used Club Finder tracks.

TaylorMade P7MC (2023)

The 2023 P7MC launched with the 2023 P770, reaching shops on January 20, 2023, at $1,299 in steel. It's a forged cavity back with perimeter weighting, with a slightly thinner topline and a narrower sole than the 2020 P7MC, and TaylorMade aimed it at the game's best ball strikers and at combo sets with the P770 or P7MB. Its lofts match the 2023 P7MB (a 34° 7-iron, a 47° PW), and its loft, lie and length match the 2020 P7MC on every club, so the two generations mix. Sources: GolfWRX, 2023 P770 and P7MC, MyGolfSpy, 2023 P Series.

On Oct 26, 2026, a used 2023 TaylorMade P7MC set (right-handed, shipping included) started at $513.74 at the stores Used Club Finder tracks.

Which irons fit your set

“Identical” sets match yours on every club both make, so a single iron from one fills a gap in the other. “Same lofts” sets will fill the gap at the right loft, but check the lie or length difference with a fitter first. Either way, the head looks different from the rest of your bag.

Check the year before you buy

TaylorMade reuses the P790 and P770 names across generations. Among the 2019 to 2023 P790s that doesn't matter for specs, but a 2020 P770 9-iron is half a degree weaker than a 2023 one, and a 2024 P770 PW is 1° stronger than an older one (45° against 46°). A 2017 P790 is a loft and lie match for a 2019 to 2023 set, 0.25 in shorter. The 2025 P790 has a 30° 7-iron and stronger lofts throughout, so check for “2025” in the listing: an older P790 iron is a loft match for a 2025 set only at the 6-iron.

Each set's page lists used irons from our stores, from that set and every set with identical specs, checked daily.

What we haven't catalogued

TaylorMade's blade and cavity back have their own pages: the P7MB (2020 used from $624.99 and 2023) and the P7CB (2024) used from $616.49. The 2020 P7MC has the same specs as the 2023 one on every club. Not catalogued yet: the 2017 P790's AW (sold in the US, but we found no specs for it). If you have a TaylorMade spec sheet for any of them, send it to us (hello@usedclubfinder.com).
